You know what the wildest part of parenting is when you have more than one child? Its the total mystery of how two kids can come from the same parent yet be SO radically different! I am ever amazed at the grave differences between my son Justice (now 7) and my daughter Addison (almost 5). Just when I think I have a handle on either one, they are growing and changing and becoming who God created to be. I call this something of personal evolution. And I realize that this is how we are to be in Christ. Ever learning, growing and becoming more in his image and likeness in all areas. THIS is actually the definition of true freedom! 2 Corinthians 3:15-17 says:
And even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.…
Everyone celebrates vs 17 as we all want the “spirit of the Lord” and the “freedom” but perhaps what we may be overlooking is that verse 17 is in contexts to the 2 previous verses. The freedom that is being refered to is the removal of the veil from our eyes to see Christ rightly so that we can love him and others rightly. THIS is the definition of true freedom.
With THAT said, I would like to RE-introduce you to Song of Hope Ministries, Inc. Three years ago in this very blog spot we introduced you to a SOHM with a radicaly different focus. Three years later, SOHM has matured and discovered a bit more of who God created it to be. When you visit our brand new website, you are going to be met with these words: Song of Hope “because freedom is for everyone”. Through the lense of Nayomi and I’s radical personal journeys, we have found this to be true. Freedom IS for everyone! Galatians 5:1 says
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free”.
We believe this happens in 3 ways: Freedom IN the word, Freedom THROUGH discipleship and Freedom TO worship. And our earnest desire is to minister these truths to both those seated in church (as we have been) and within the walls of those seated behind prison bars.
I have been STRUCK by a familiar verse that I have read many times in Matthew 25:35-36 in the context of the parable of the talents:
“ForI was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, 36I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’…”
While there is MUCH to know about this passage, I was struck that Jesus is to be found among the hungry, hungry, thirsty, strangers, the naked, the sick and the emprisoned. And I realized that we have been given MANY talents having been part of the prayer/missions movement in a robust way. We have been entrusted with the understanding of the importance and value of the study of the word and prayer, how to walk that out and the importance of value of worship as a way of living! So, Nayomi and want to make it our mission to live this out in a full time way. In collaboration with Prison Fellowship, SOHM will partner to take these realities to prisons both here in America and across the oceans while still bringing awareness and inviting the church into this freedom as well! Phase two of SOHM is to launch an online Worship Leader mentorship. More on that later. What if we could host worship nights IN PRISONS?! What we could write prophetic songs with inmates and release those songs to the earth?! This is our aim. There is mich more to say but you can read more about this mission on our brand new website. Also, I want to invite you to become a partner with us. We ABSOLUTELY have NOTHING we can do without your financial and prayer support! Would you consider becoming a friend to this ministry?
